SELVA-Vida Sin Fronteras’ Amazon medical clinics: No strings attached.
THE AMAZON PINK DOLPHIN’S VOICE-25/11/2013
The ageing Shaman appeared to be pleased. However he did have one question in his mind. What is behind SELVA’s medical clinics? Is this support conditioned or are any obligations attached?
None at all, we assured him.
We believe that it is Humanity that has the moral obligation to correct the devastation that came with oil. We can not be indifferent to the fact that mortality rates and the loss of ancestral lands since Texaco’s presence in 1960 to today, overlap at a mind blowing 94%. Developmental Genocide some would suggest.
Consequently no strings are attached to our medical activities. SELVA does not condition the Amazon Nationalities in any form what so ever. We do not enter the discussion of political affiliation, we do not intervene in religious beliefs, nor do we charge for our services.
After all, if we do not attempt to urgently address the conditions of extreme poverty in which Amazon Nationalities are immersed, we have absolutely no chance of protecting the Amazon Rainforest, home to 30% of the world’s biodiversity and source of 18% of the planet’s daily fresh water supply. The Nationalities are the only guardians of their Ancestral lands, the Amazon Rainforest.
In the name of our executive president, Mariana Almeida, SELVA wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. Daniel Bedon and the University of Longwood, particularly for their devotion and dedication as medical Doctors and Nurses to the Amazon communities. Dr. Bedon has treated 40 patients per clinic in the months of October and November of this year.
